'The gas main from the bulk tank had been compromised and there was a flame shooting 60 feet in the air. We didn't want to put water on that, we wanted to shut the fuel off. We didn't want to put the fire out because if you put the fire out, the gas continues to leak and with the building in the front burning, it is just going to cause another explosion,' explained Claremont Fire Chief Peter Chase.
